This season has not been what I had envisioned and to be honest it has probably been one of the most challenging race seasons I have done. After a really solid off season of training I had some training hurdles in the fall that unfortunately carried into the race season.
I started the season racing in Sovereign Lake BC in early December, where it was evident that my fitness had taken a hit over the fall. I was able to pull together and start the AB Cup circuit the following weekend where I was able to pull together a podium performance in the team sprint event with my teammate. But that would be the climax of my weekend as I suffered pretty badly the following day.

I took some recovery time over Christmas before heading to Ontario for the World championship trials where I hoped that I would be able to pull together and qualify for team Canada, which unfortunately wasn't the case. It's been a humbling season so far and not the year I hoped for but it is the year I have had. It came at a tough time but it has taught me the importance of rest, recovery and putting yourself and your mental health first.
I made the difficult decision (along with my coach) in january that I needed to take time off racing for the later half of the season, it was hard but it was the right thing to do.
